Application area
Manufacturing
In production a scanner sits next to machines, dust, oils and vibration. What matters here is reading codes marked directly on the part, resistance to the environment and a stable link to the record-keeping system, so that every part can be traced from raw material to finished product.

Typical tasks
- Reading DPM codes marked directly on metal or plastic by engraving or dot peen
- Batch traceability: from raw material to finished goods
- Scanning at the workstation at the start and end of an operation
- Fixed readers on the line above the conveyor, with no operator involved
- Ultra-rugged handheld scanners for quality control and service
- Passing data to MES or ERP in real time
What to look for
The DPM code. Codes marked directly on the surface are harder to read than a printed label, especially on shiny or curved metal. Test with real samples of your own parts before deciding.
The environment. For dust, liquids and impacts, choose ultra-rugged models with IP65 or IP67 protection and drop resistance per the manufacturer's data for the chosen model.
Fixed or handheld. A fixed reader automatically reads parts on the belt, while a handheld is more flexible for varied parts. The same line often uses both.
The interface. Choose USB, RS-232 or Bluetooth to suit existing equipment, and for line readers also check the connection to the PLC or industrial network.
Integration. A scanner passes on only the code value. Traceability logic, reports and the link to MES and ERP are built separately, and we discuss them together with your project.
