Logistics
In logistics a parcel is scanned several times along the way: on receipt, at sorting, at loading and on delivery. A slow or fragile scanner shows at once in delays, and a wrong read sends the parcel in the wrong direction.

Typical tasks
- Sorting parcels into flows, with fast reading of shipping labels
- Courier work: confirming pickup and handover
- Dispatch: checking parcels as they are loaded onto the vehicle
- Cross-docking warehouses, where goods do not sit but move from dock to dock
- Receiving and unloading shipments against the accompanying documents
- Scanning on the move with a wearable ring for heavy volumes
What to look for
Varied labels. Parcels from many senders carry different labels, sometimes creased or dirty. A 2D imager with good tolerance of damage reduces repeated reads.
Durability. Docks, vans and the yard are harsh environments. Choose ultra-rugged models with IP65 or IP67 protection and drop resistance per the manufacturer's data for the model in question.
Mobility. In cross-docking and sorting, a cordless model or a wearable ring helps you avoid being tied to a fixed station. Plan coverage and spare batteries.
Couriers. If delivery needs a screen, signature or photo confirmation, a scanner is not enough: you need a terminal, see terminale-mobile.md.
Record keeping. The data you read must reach the transport or warehouse system. For your own warehouse you may be interested in wms.md.
Volume and seasonality. In peak periods (holidays, sales) the number of parcels jumps sharply. Work out from the start how many scanners you need at the peak, not on an ordinary day, and keep a few spare models for quick replacement.
