At the checkout a scanner fires hundreds of times an hour, and every missed read means a queue. In a store, what counts is speed, reliable reading of worn labels and phone screens, and a look that does not spoil the interior.

Typical tasks
- Checkout lane: continuous scanning with a bioptic or multi-plane scanner
- Hands-free presentation scanners for busy lanes and self-service points
- Handheld corded or cordless scanners for bulky goods and shelves
- Reading coupons and loyalty cards shown on a phone screen
- Scanning on the scale: a bioptic scanner combined with a scale
- Store stockroom: receiving, checking and stocktaking in the back room
What to look for
Code type. For old linear labels a simple model will do, but for mobile coupons, QR codes and 2D codes you need a 2D imager. Ask us to confirm that the model reads a phone screen reliably, including at low brightness.
Checkout format. For heavy traffic choose a bioptic or multi-plane scanner, where the item does not need to be aimed. For small or service counters a handheld or presentation model is enough.
Corded or cordless. A cordless (Bluetooth) model is handy for heavy items and for work on the sales floor, but it needs disciplined charging and a base station. A corded model is simpler and does not depend on a battery.
Healthcare (HC) variants. If the scanner is used in a pharmacy or anywhere with frequent disinfection, choose variants with a disinfectant-resistant housing.
Integration. Check the interface (USB, RS-232 or Bluetooth) and compatibility with your POS software. If you need a screen and an app, see also mobile terminals.
